Differentiated SIM CHILDKEY™

The Idea
The ChildKey™ system is built on a principle that links the user’s
age profile (age-tag) to any web-page request (Age Sender function).
To enable this, the user’s profile must be recognised as soon as the Internet connection takes place.
Recognition depends on a private password that the user must type in on connection.
Identification
is performed by ChildKey© software, which is not installed on the
user’s computer but on the server of the Internet Service Provider with
which the user has subscribed a contract for access with inclusive of
the ChildKey© clause. Under this contract, the provider offers
diversified access to adults and minors, issuing each family member
with a personal password.
If a minor’s password is provided, the
software installed on the server switches the connection to assisted
navigation, enabling the Age Sender function. Thanks to this function,
servers with ChildKey© software are able to recognise the age of the
connected user.
By implementing the ChildKey© system, website
managers can easily “moralise” their actions, attaching a simple
statement (ChildKey© metadata) to each page that specifies whether its
online content is viewable or not by minors. The Safety World Wide Web
Foundation’s task is to demand such a statement and ensure it is
applied correctly.
Transparency in the Foundation’s operations is certified by Ernst & Young.
Main benefits of ChildKey© technology
- By notifying the age-tag, it makes website content distributors directly responsible. They can certify their web pages with a straightforward and costless statement.
- It enriches the services offered by Internet Service Providers with an option that is popular with families.
- It can establish itself as a worldwide self-replicating online standard.
- It does not require installation of any software or hardware on the user’s computer.
- It places no restrictions on adult navigation.
